Teaching

MOSAICS FOR SCHOOLS

I provide taught sessions in primary and secondary schools across Yorkshire & the UK. Please contact me regarding possible sources of funding for the cost of materials (up to £250 vouchers).

I am currently contracted by MIND (Hull & East Yorkshire) to work with disadvantaged children, at risk of developing a mental health illness, aged 5-13 years old across schools, with children's charities, youth centres and out of school activities.

Whilst teaching mosaics in schools I have sought to link the sessions to the national curriculum by exploring the history of mosaics - with particular reference to the Romans; maths - calculating the number of tiles required and cost to cover a given area; ICT - designing a mosaic on the pc and exploring other mosaic artists via the web; English - providing a written quiz; and, geography - asking the children to consider where they have seen mosaics across the world, for eg, holidays abroad.

I have taught in a wide variety of schools including rural, urban, special needs, public, private, small and large. Projects have included mosaicing a mirror to external and internal wall mosaics.

I hold a clear Enhanced Criminal Record Certificate (CRB check) available for inspection and have a certificate in Safeguarding Children (Level 1).

Schools I have worked with include:
Rush Green Infant's, Romford
St Joseph's RC Primary, Bingley
Clifton Pre-prep, York
Fishergate Primary, York
Cockburn College of Performing Arts, Leeds
Wansbeck Primary, Hull
Wilberfoss Primary, York
Endeavour High, Hull
Hutton Cranswick Primary, Driffield
St Thomas More RC Primary, Hull
Ravenscliffe High, Halifax
Northcott Special School, Hull
Holy Name RC Primary, Hull

MOSAICS FOR ADULTS

I also run mosaic workshops for adults and I am qualified to teach adult learners (City & Guilds PTTLS). Mosaic workshops can be arranged to explore the direct and indirect methods of making mosaics using a variety of materials or tailor made to suite a given project. Previous sessions have included regional art societies, disadvantaged parent-child groups, mental health clients, museum-based community themed and parish council events.

Bookings are now being taken for my next series of workshops at the Dutch House, Mill Green Farm, Brandsby Road, Crayke, North Yorkshire YO61 4TT
